DIY TRY; Tye Dye Denim

Patterned denim is all the rage right now from florals to Ikat and even tie dye.

The Paige Tumble Tie Dye as seen on Olivia Polermo, Elle MacPherson and more celebs were the inspiration for this DIY TRY. I used the instructions over at SwellMayde. If you are into DIY and fashion you should SO check out her blog.

One thing I have noticed about these jeans is that the pattern is not always the same so it is easier to just go for it and do it yourself without having to try to mimic the design perfectly. That said I wish I had used more of the purple and rust colours to cover the white of my jeans.

Paige Tye Dye Denim DIY Try

I am actually considering revisiting this diy and adding more large splotches of colour instead of swipes.

For Canadian DIYers you can get RIT at Zellers and I found some dye at the Dollar store too.

I also need to cut these jeans off and hem them at an ankle length to make them a bit more wearable!

I did this DIY TRY with my 3 year old daughter, who actually did a great job on her own jeans. She wore a smock and was heavily supervised. When she maxed out and the attention span waned I put a few finishing touches on her jeans.

I didn’t add the rust colour to hers, I wanted them to be more little girl as opposed to trendy denim and I really like how they turned out.

Don’t expect alot, if any, more photos of my kids. I try to keep them separate from this blog. That is why I don’t share my instagram as I only have one feed and there are WAY too many precious moments of my kids on there to make it public.

I am sure at some moment you have done tie dye – but would you tie dye jeans?

Three Things I Want; Spring Sales edition

I have been doing alot of shopping and returning lately. Mostly because I have been trolling the websites instead of the mall and buying without trying on. Which of course is the worst way to buy things. Hence purchases have been sent back.

But still I surf the internet for style inspiration and find things that I lust for; but instead of pulling the trigger and buying sight unseen, I plan on stopping by the mall this week to check out these items and try them on first.

club monaco trench coatI really want to update my trench coat. The one that I have is so old and worn out I am not sure why it is still in my closet. Plus I want one in a classic colour like the Club Monaco one above, which is on sale but still pricey for a Stay at Home, Style blogger Mom. I also have considered this one from Asos.

Everything 90′s is cool again. I was watching some university aged girls wearing something very grunge era (aka highschool for me) on the streetcar the other day and thought if only my grade 10 wardrobe still fit me (hahahaha not even close).

I always wanted the perfect denim cut off then and now the urge has resurfaced. I struggle with summer wear but these longish Bermudas from American Eagle should be fun. Assuming they aren’t too tight in the leg. My endless shorts struggle continues…

madewell sandalI really want a pair of cool sandals that I can walk in. My feet are screaming at me right now as I wore my super cool studded black leather sandals (worn in this post) and I have big blisters on my baby toes. I should have just wrapped them while I am breaking in these shoes but I never think that far ahead. Really it just makes me think that these are not for any serious walking.

I love the Madewell ones above and with minimal straps it should mean fewer blisters but really my feet would just love for me to replace my Birkenstocks as unfashionable as they are.

What are you wanting now that the weather is getting super hot? Are you shopping the sales on Spring items or scooping up hot weather staples?

I {don’t} Want to Wear Skulls

Skulls have made it up the fashion food chain and seem to be everywhere in terms of accessories right now.

They are no longer just for rebellious teens, punks and goths. Nope high fashion has embraced them and they have gone mainstream.

To be honest skulls kinda creep me out. I know in some cultures they represent life not death and are something to be revered but they remind me more of horror movies and the gross out scenes from an autopsy show.

Still I can’t help but admit that the Alexander McQueen scarves are covet-worthy.

Outfit Remix; Floral Dress 2 Ways

The weather has been AMAZE-ING lately, no? I have been slowly integrating more summer-y, warm weather clothing as the late afternoon temperatures rise. It means bare legs but maintaining light layers to manage against the cool morning chill.

I always like to make sure I am buying items, especially summer items that are more than a one trick pony. That means I can style them a number of ways, even if at first glance you think well it’s a dress, I will just put it on and be done with it.

one dress two looks

Ok to make a point of how easy it is to change-up a look I just switched out the open knit sweater for the white Zara blazer. And a couple of accessories. Et Voila!

The first look is fairly casual. Like afternoon beers on the patio casual.Whereas the second look is a bit more formal like date night formal.

open knit sweater and dress

I kept the casual outfit really simple. A chunky necklace and vintage cameo pinky ring. And my “I feel cool” aviator sunglasses.

I actually really love how this outfit turned out. The key was getting the sweater to sit just right so that it looked cool, not frumpy.

floral dress and blazer

This outfit, even though there is more going on, took less effort. Ok well figuring out whether to belt over the jacket (the pockets make this a NO) or under the jacket took me a while, but mentally putting a blazer over a dress is a no brainer.

belted floral dress

One thing about this dress is I actually wish it had more of a natural waist. But I love the colour and the pleated skirt. It maybe just me but I think the pleated skirt is what makes this style remix work in that it allows the dress to be worn as a skirt or a dress with ease.
